Voice conversations
Next to the text box is a microphone. Visitors tap it once and talk the way they would on the phone. It's a live voice conversation:
- viora listens and notices when they've finished talking. The question appears in the chat.
- The answer is written in short, spoken-style sentences, and each sentence is spoken as soon as it's written.
- Visitors can talk over viora to interrupt it, or tap the orb.
- viora keeps listening until the visitor taps End.
Swahili answers are spoken in viora's natural Swahili voice on every plan (female by default; see Voices). On Starter and Business plans, English answers use viora's natural English voice too (300 and 1,000 answers a month); otherwise English is read by the visitor's device.
Voice needs a website served over https and the visitor's permission to use the microphone; the browser asks once. The voice code loads only when a visitor taps the microphone, so it doesn't slow your page.
Recordings are sent only to turn them into text. They aren't stored. To turn voice off, untick Let visitors talk to viora in your dashboard, set assistant.voice: false in your profile, or add data-voice="off" to the script.
What visitors see
- A button in the corner; after a few seconds, a one-time greeting.
- Suggested questions, answers that appear as they're written, and links that open WhatsApp.
- A microphone for asking out loud, with spoken answers.
- When viora can't answer: a short form to leave a name and number, and a WhatsApp button.
- Esc or a click outside closes the chat. Animations are reduced for visitors who ask for less motion.
The widget lives in its own Shadow DOM, so your website's styles don't change it and it doesn't change your website.
